The company was founded by Narciso Delladio, who handcrafted wooden clogs and leather boots for laborers in the early 20th century before pioneering footwear for alpine expeditions.

While many competitors have moved their entire production offshore, La Sportiva remains deeply rooted in the Fiemme Valley of Italy. A significant portion of their technical products, particularly high-end climbing and mountaineering boots, is still manufactured at their headquarters in Ziano di Fiemme. To meet global demand and various price points, some of their hiking shoes and apparel are produced in specialized facilities in China and Vietnam, though design and quality oversight remain in Italy.
