De Ruijter is an iconic Dutch brand established in 1860 by C.P. de Ruijter in Baarn, Netherlands. Originally famous for its 'muisjes' (aniseed sprinkles), the brand expanded into a variety of bread toppings including chocolate sprinkles (hagelslag) and flakes (vlokken). The 'Royaal' line signifies premium, larger flakes made with extra dark chocolate.
While the brand remains deeply rooted in Dutch breakfast and lunch culture, its ownership has transitioned through several corporate hands. It was family-owned for over a century before being acquired by CSM, and later becoming part of the Heinz portfolio. Since the 2015 merger, De Ruijter is a flagship brand under the Kraft Heinz umbrella. Despite this American corporate ownership, manufacturing continues to be primarily centered in the Netherlands to maintain the high quality and cultural authenticity of their traditional Dutch chocolate products.
