Hera is a iconic brand of vegetable fat primarily used for baking, well-known in the Czech and Slovak markets. The brand's history dates back to 1927 when it was first introduced as a high-quality margarine. For decades, it was a flagship product of the Dutch-British conglomerate Unilever, becoming a staple in European kitchens for its reliability in pastry and cake recipes.
In 2018, Unilever sold its entire spreads division to the private equity firm KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.), leading to the formation of a standalone company called Upfield. Today, Hera is produced under Upfield's portfolio. While it maintains its traditional branding and presence in Central Europe, manufacturing occurs across several of Upfield's European facilities, including plants in Poland or Germany, depending on regional distribution logistics. The brand remains a dominant player in the baking fat category, marketed for its 'easy baking' properties and butter flavor.
