Milka Chocolate Bars

Milka is one of the world's most recognizable chocolate brands, legendary for its lilac packaging and Alpine milk heritage. The brand traces its origins to 1825, when Swiss chocolatier Philippe Suchard founded his first confectionery in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. However, the Milka brand was officially trademarked and launched in 1901 by Suchard's son-in-law, Carl Russ-Suchard, in Lörrach, Germany. This makes the brand a unique bridge between Swiss invention and German industrial heritage.

Today, the primary production hub for Milka remains the original factory in Lörrach, Germany, which produces over 100,000 tons of chocolate annually. To meet global demand, manufacturing also takes place in other European locations including Bludenz (Austria), Bratislava (Slovakia), and several other international plants.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through several major corporate mergers and acquisitions. Originally part of Chocolat Suchard, it became part of Jacobs Suchard in 1982, which was then acquired by the American multinational Kraft Foods in 1990. In 2012, Kraft Foods spun off its global snack food division into a new, publicly traded entity named Mondelēz International. As of 2026, Mondelēz International remains the ultimate owner of Milka, steering the brand from its global headquarters in Chicago, USA.
