In 2020, amid a global push for racial justice and a re-evaluation of brand iconography, the parent company announced it would retire the name and image to move away from racial stereotypes.

In 2021, the brand was officially rebranded as Pearl Milling Company, a name that pays homage to the original mill where the product was first created. Despite the name change, the product formulas remained largely consistent with the classic recipes. Today, it remains a staple of American breakfast tables, manufactured primarily in the United States under the oversight of consumer goods giant PepsiCo.
