The platform was originally founded as a joint venture between Telenet, Acerta, and CM (Christelijke Mutualiteit). It operates as a cloud-based software service (SaaS), with its primary infrastructure and development centralized in Belgium to comply with European data security standards. Over the years, it has grown to serve millions of users, offering features like electronic signatures and automated bill payments.

In mid-2022, majority ownership of Doccle shifted when the Belgian postal and logistics group, bpost, acquired a 50% stake in the company, subsequently taking full control or significant leading interests alongside existing partners to integrate it into their digital services ecosystem. The brand remains headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, representing a key component of the country's digital infrastructure.
