The brand was founded in 1890 by Hendrik de Venz in Vaassen, though its most famous association is with the city of Amsterdam. For over a century, Venz has been a staple of Dutch breakfast culture.

Manufacturing takes place primarily in the Netherlands, specifically in Utrecht, where the brand's iconic chocolate and sugar-based products are produced.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through major conglomerates over the years. Originally an independent family business, it was acquired by the Dutch company Droste and later became part of the CSM group. In 2001, Kraft Foods (later Mondelēz International) acquired the brand. Currently, Venz is owned by The Kraft Heinz Company following the merger of Kraft and Heinz in 2015. Kraft Heinz manages the brand through its European subsidiaries, maintaining its strong presence in the Benelux market.
