The concept was originally invented in 1903 in the United Kingdom by Guy Hugh Gilbey of the London gin distillers, W & A Gilbey Ltd. In the late 1990s, SodaStream merged with the Israeli company Soda-Club, which shifted the brand's primary manufacturing and research operations to Israel. The brand is now famous for its environmental focus, encouraging consumers to reduce single-use plastic bottles. In 2018, the brand reached its most significant corporate milestone when it was acquired by the American multinational PepsiCo. Today, SodaStream operates as a major subsidiary of PepsiCo, maintaining its headquarters and primary manufacturing base in Israel while distributing its products to over 45 countries worldwide.
