Gore-Tex is a waterproof, breathable fabric membrane and a registered trademark of W. L. Gore & Associates. Invented in 1969, Gore-Tex can repel liquid water while allowing water vapor to pass through, and is designed to be a lightweight, waterproof fabric for all-weather use. While Gore-Tex produces the technology and the membrane, the footwear itself is manufactured by various partner brands such as Adidas, Salomon, or Ecco in multiple locations worldwide, including Vietnam, China, and Germany. The brand remains under the private ownership of the Gore family.
