Le Guérandais Gros Sel de Guérande is a premium natural coarse grey sea salt harvested by hand from the salt marshes of Guérande in Brittany, France. This salt is produced using centuries-old traditional methods where salt workers (paludiers) use wooden tools to gather the salt crystallizing at the bottom of the ponds. The grey color is naturally derived from the clay soil of the salt marshes, which enriches the salt with minerals.
The brand is owned by the cooperative 'Les Salines de Guérande,' a collective of independent salt workers who formed the organization in the 1970s to preserve their artisanal craft and the unique ecosystem of the Guérande peninsula. The product carries the 'Nature & Progrès' label, signifying strict adherence to organic and ecological production standards, as well as the 'Indication Géographique Protégée' (IGP) status, which legally protects the geographical origin and traditional harvesting methods of Guérande salt.
