Samsung was founded in 1938 by Lee Byung-chul as a trading company in Suwon, South Korea. While it initially dealt in groceries and noodles, it expanded into electronics in the late 1960s. Today, Samsung Electronics is a global leader in technology, particularly in the production of semiconductors, mobile devices, and consumer appliances.
Manufacturing for Samsung products is highly globalized. Most of its smartphones are now produced in Vietnam and India, while high-end semiconductor components and domestic appliances are still manufactured in South Korea. The company also maintains significant production facilities in Brazil and China to serve regional markets. Samsung remains a primary pillar of the South Korean economy and continues to be owned and managed as part of the Samsung Group conglomerate.
