Donuts is an iconic Spanish bakery brand founded in 1962 by Andreu Costafreda. Costafreda had discovered American-style doughnuts during a trip but realized they fared better in warmer climates if coated in chocolate or sugar. Following his discovery, he established Panrico (Panificio Rivera Costafreda) to produce them locally in Spain.
Over the decades, Panrico grew into a dominant force in the Spanish industrial bakery market. In 2016, following several ownership changes including private equity firms, the brand was acquired by the multinational food giant Bimbo (Grupo Bimbo). The product shown, a chocolate-covered 'Bombón' variety, continues to be produced primarily in Spanish factories located in areas like Granollers and Puente Genil to ensure freshness and supply to the Iberian market.
