Dafalgan is one of the most recognized pharmaceutical brands in France, specializing in pain relief and fever management using paracetamol. The brand was originally developed by UPSA (Union de Pharmacologie Scientifique Appliquée), which was founded in 1935 by Dr. Camille Bru in Agen, France.
Historically, the brand underwent significant ownership changes, moving from the founding family to Bristol-Myers Squibb in the 1990s. More recently, in 2019, the brand and its parent company, UPSA, were acquired by Taisho Pharmaceutical, a leading Japanese pharmaceutical company. Despite the Japanese ownership, production remains heavily centered in France, particularly at the original historic manufacturing site in Agen, which serves as a major industrial hub for the brand’s global distribution.
