Wilson is one of the most recognizable names in global sports, particularly within the world of tennis. Founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1913, the brand initially began as the Ashland Manufacturing Company before being renamed Wilson & Co. in 1916. The brand has been the official ball supplier for the US Open since 1978 and Roland Garros (the French Open) since 2020.

While Wilson remains an American-founded brand with deep roots in Chicago, its corporate ownership has transitioned over the decades. In 1989, it was acquired by the Finnish company Amer Sports. In recent years, Amer Sports (and consequently Wilson) was acquired by a consortium led by the Chinese sportswear giant ANTA Sports. Today, the manufacturing of Wilson tennis balls is primarily centralized in a state-of-the-art facility in Thailand, though certain specialized components and packaging may be sourced from other Southeast Asian regions.
