Laphroaig Four Oak is a distinctive Islay single malt Scotch whisky matured in four different types of wood: ex-bourbon barrels, small quarter casks, virgin American oak barrels, and larger European oak hogsheads. This specific expression is part of the brand's travel retail range and is known for its signature peat-smoke aroma combined with creamy vanilla and sandalwood notes.
The Laphroaig distillery, located on the south coast of the island of Islay, was officially founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston. It has become one of the most iconic Scotch brands globally, famously holding a Royal Warrant from the Prince of Wales. While it began as a family-run operation, the brand transitioned through several owners throughout the 20th century. Today, Laphroaig is a key asset in the portfolio of Beam Suntory, a multi-national spirits producer based in Chicago, which itself is a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Suntory Holdings. Production continues exclusively at the original distillery site in Scotland to maintain its geographically protected Scotch status.
