Kellogg's Special K is one of the most recognizable cereal brands globally, originally launched in the United States in 1955. It was developed by the Kellogg Company as the first cereal to be fortified with seven vitamins and iron. Over the decades, it has expanded from its original rice flakes into a diverse line including granola, snack bars, and protein shakes.
In 2023, the Kellogg Company underwent a significant corporate restructuring, splitting into two independent public companies: WK Kellogg Co and Kellanova. Following this split, the cereal business in North America (including the US, Canada, and the Caribbean) is now managed by WK Kellogg Co. Meanwhile, Kellanova handles the international cereal business along with global snacking brands. Manufacturing is decentralized, with major facilities remaining in Battle Creek, Michigan, and various global hubs to serve local markets.
The brand remains a cornerstone of the breakfast industry, focusing on health-oriented marketing. While the original Kellogg Company was founded by Will Keith Kellogg, the modern ownership is shared between these two successor entities depending on the geographic region of sale.
