Planters is an iconic American snack brand founded in 1906 by Italian immigrant Amedeo Obici in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The brand is globally recognized through its mascot, Mr. Peanut, who was created in 1916. For over a century, Planters has been a leader in the nut industry, innovating in packaging and preservation to maintain freshness.
While the brand was historically owned by Standard Brands and later Kraft Heinz through various mergers, a major transition occurred in 2021. Hormel Foods Corporation acquired the Planters business from Kraft Heinz in one of the largest deals in Hormel's history. Today, Planters products are primarily manufactured in the United States, with major processing facilities located in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Suffolk, Virginia, ensuring a consistent supply of roasted nuts and snacks for the North American market.
