Motorola is an iconic name in the telecommunications industry, originally founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1928 by the Galvin brothers. The brand is credited with inventing some of the most historic communication technologies, including the first handheld cellular mobile phone. Over the decades, it became a global leader in mobile telephony, most notably with the Razr line of phones in the early 2000s.

In 2011, Motorola Inc. split into two independent companies: Motorola Solutions and Motorola Mobility. The latter, which handles the consumer-facing mobile phone business, was acquired by Google in 2012 before being sold to the Chinese technology giant Lenovo Group Ltd. in 2014. Under Lenovo's ownership, the brand has revitalized its presence in the global smartphone market, focusing on both mid-range devices and premium foldable smartphones.

While the brand maintains deep American roots through its design and engineering headquarters in Chicago, the majority of manufacturing now takes place in China and India. This shift reflects the global supply chain strategy of its parent company, Lenovo, which integrates its massive manufacturing capabilities to distribute Motorola products across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
