John Lobb is a prestigious name in British shoemaking, originally founded in London in 1849 by its namesake. The brand earned its reputation as a premier bootmaker to royalty and the aristocracy. In the late 19th century, the company expanded by opening a workshop in Paris to serve its French clientele.
Today, the brand operates under two distinct entities following a 1976 acquisition. The Parisian workshop and the global ready-to-wear business were acquired by the French luxury group Hermès. Consequently, while the historical bespoke shop at St James's Street in London remains independent and family-owned (John Lobb Ltd), the global brand found in international boutiques is owned and operated by Hermès. Manufacturing is split between a renowned workshop in Northampton, England, for the ready-to-wear collections, and a bespoke atelier in Paris for unique, custom-made designs.
