Michelob ULTRA was introduced in 2002 by Anheuser-Busch as a response to the growing consumer interest in low-carbohydrate and low-calorie diets. It quickly became one of the fastest-growing beer brands in the United States, marketed heavily toward individuals with active lifestyles. The brand is originally American, hailing from the historic Anheuser-Busch brewery in St. Louis, Missouri.
While the brand has deep American roots, it is now part of the vast portfolio of Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), a Belgian multinational powerhouse that formed through a series of massive global mergers involving Interbrew, AmBev, and Anheuser-Busch. Today, while much of the Michelob ULTRA sold in North America is brewed in major US facilities such as those in St. Louis and Fort Collins, the global scale of its parent company means it may be produced in various international facilities to serve different markets.
