Proper Job is an award-winning authentic India Pale Ale (IPA) that has become one of the most recognized craft-style beers in the United Kingdom. The beer is brewed using spring water from the brewery's own well and a blend of American hops, specifically Chinook, Willamette, and Cascade.

The brewery itself was founded in 1851 by Walter Hicks and remains one of the few large independent family-owned breweries in the UK. Ownership of the brand remains with St Austell Brewery Company Ltd. The company has grown significantly over the decades, acquiring other historic breweries such as Bath Ales.
