The Doom Status Bar is one of the most iconic user interface elements in video game history, first appearing in the 1993 groundbreaking first-person shooter Doom. It traditionally displays essential player information, including the iconic 'Doomguy' face that reflects the player's health status through various levels of facial trauma. Originally developed by id Software in Mesquite, Texas, the status bar has become a universal symbol for the retro gaming era and the birth of the FPS genre.

The development of the status bar was a collaborative effort by the original id Software team, including John Romero, John Carmack, and artist Adrian Carmack. Over the decades, ownership of the brand has shifted through major industry acquisitions. Today, the brand and all its intellectual property are part of the ZeniMax Media portfolio, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2021. The status bar continues to be featured in modern remasters and remains a significant piece of digital design history, frequently referenced or parodied in contemporary media.
