Bolletje is a household name in the Netherlands, synonymous with traditional Dutch bakery products. The brand's journey began in 1867 when Albert ter Beek opened a bakery in Almelo. While initially focused on bread, the company gained significant fame after World War II for its rusks (beschuit), later expanding into a wide variety of biscuits, ginger nuts (kruidnoten), and cookies. The iconic marketing slogan 'Ik wil Bolletje!' (I want Bolletje!) has remained a powerful part of Dutch consumer culture for decades.

Today, the production remains deeply rooted in the Netherlands, with major bakeries located in Almelo and Heerde. The brand manages to balance traditional recipes with modern snacking trends. In terms of ownership, after over a century as a family-owned business, Bolletje was acquired by the German corporate group Borggreve in 2013, which has allowed the brand to maintain its Dutch identity while benefiting from a larger European distribution network.
