Black Sheep is a renowned British brewery known for its traditional brewing methods and iconic status in the Yorkshire brewing scene. The brand was famously founded in 1992 by Paul Theakston after a family dispute regarding the sale of the long-standing T&R Theakston brewery to a larger conglomerate. This independent spirit is reflected in its name, symbolizing Paul's role as the 'black sheep' of the family.

Over the decades, Black Sheep became a staple of British pubs, particularly known for its Best Bitter and Milk Stout. However, in 2023, the brand underwent a significant corporate shift when it entered administration due to financial pressures. It was subsequently acquired by the investment firm Breal Group (now known as Keystone Brewing Group), which has begun consolidating several historic British breweries under one ownership umbrella.

While the primary production remains deeply rooted in Masham, North Yorkshire, the new ownership structure has integrated Black Sheep into a larger portfolio that includes other heritage brands. This change aims to preserve the brand's legacy while adapting to the evolving global craft beer market.
