Bose is a globally recognized leader in sound technology, founded in 1964 by Dr. Amar Bose in Framingham, Massachusetts. The company gained fame for its innovative research into psychoacoustics and its development of noise-canceling headphones, high-fidelity home audio systems, and professional sound solutions. Since its inception, Bose has maintained a unique corporate structure where the majority of the company's non-voting shares were donated to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), ensuring that profits are reinvested into research and education.

Historically, Bose operated several manufacturing facilities in the United States and Ireland. However, in recent years, the company has transitioned to a more global supply chain model. While research, design, and engineering remain centered in the United States, mass production is primarily carried out in specialized facilities across Mexico, China, Thailand, and Malaysia. In 2023, the 'Bose Professional' division was sold to a private equity firm, while the core consumer electronics business remains under the original Bose Corporation ownership.
