Catima is a prominent open-source loyalty card wallet application designed for the Android platform. It allows users to digitize their loyalty cards, coupons, and tickets by scanning barcodes, thereby reducing physical wallet clutter while prioritizing user privacy by operating without tracking or unnecessary internet permissions.
The project originated in the Netherlands as an independent open-source initiative. Unlike commercial applications developed by large multinational corporations, Catima is maintained by a community of developers and is distributed primarily through F-Droid and the Google Play Store. Its development follows a transparent, community-driven model where the source code is publicly available for auditing and contribution.
As an open-source tool, Catima does not have a traditional corporate owner in the sense of a for-profit conglomerate. It remains under the stewardship of its original creators and the open-source community, ensuring it remains free of charge and focused on data sovereignty for its global user base.
