Cedar Phoenicia is a prominent Mediterranean food brand deeply rooted in Lebanese culinary traditions. This specific product, Tamarind Syrup, is manufactured in Lebanon, as indicated by the 'Product of Lebanon' label on the packaging. The syrup is a traditional concentrate used to prepare refreshing drinks common in Middle Eastern cuisine.
The brand was originally established by the Abou-Faysal family, who founded Phoenicia Group to bring authentic Mediterranean flavors to international markets, particularly in Canada. The company officially dates back to the late 1950s/early 1960s. Today, Cedar remains a flagship brand of Phoenicia Group, which operates as a major food importer and distributor based in Quebec.
Phoenicia Group is currently a subsidiary of the Metro Inc. retail giant. Metro acquired a majority stake in Phoenicia Group and its subsidiaries in 2017 to strengthen its ethnic food portfolio and distribution house capabilities. This ensures that the production retains its original expertise in Lebanon while benefiting from a large-scale Canadian corporate distribution network.
