Tate & Lyle is a cornerstone of the British pantry, a brand with a history stretching back to the 19th century when Henry Tate and Abram Lyle established their respective sugar refineries. Traditionally known for its iconic golden syrup and refined sugars, the brand has expanded its portfolio to include modern calorie-conscious alternatives like these sweetener tablets.
Today, the brand landscape for Tate & Lyle is divided. The sugarcane refining business, which produces the tabletop sweeteners and sugars found in supermarkets, was sold to American Sugar Refining (ASR Group) in 2010. While the brand remains deeply rooted in British heritage and continues much of its production in the UK (notably at the Thames Refinery in London), it is now under the stewardship of a global leader in cane sugar refining based in the United States.
The global company originally known as Tate & Lyle PLC transitioned to focus primarily on food ingredients and solutions for industrial clients, while ASR Group maintains the retail presence of the brand name consumers recognize in their tea and coffee. This product represents the evolution of a historic brand adapting to modern health trends while maintaining its classic visual identity.
