Zendesk Sunshine Conversations (formerly Smooch.io)

Sunshine Conversations, often identified by the legacy enterprise brand Smooch, is a sophisticated omnichannel messaging platform. It was originally developed by the Canadian startup Smooch.io, which focused on creating unified APIs for business-to-customer communications across various social and mobile channels. The platform is widely used by developers to programmatically manage conversations, including the feature known as silent messaging.

In 2019, the global customer service software leader Zendesk acquired Smooch.io to bolster its CRM capabilities and integrate its robust messaging infrastructure into the Zendesk suite. Now known as Sunshine Conversations, the platform's core technology is hosted and maintained primarily through Zendesk's cloud infrastructure in the United States and other global data center regions.

As part of the Zendesk ecosystem, the brand is owned and operated by Zendesk, Inc., which is headquartered in San Francisco, California. Following its acquisition by a consortium led by Hellman & Friedman and Permira in 2022, Zendesk transitioned from a public to a private company, continuing its growth as a premier provider of customer engagement and experience solutions.
