The Monnett Monerai is a high-performance sailplane designed specifically for the homebuilt aircraft market. Developed in the United States during the late 1970s, it features a distinctive pod-and-boom design with a V-tail and mid-mounted wings. It was primarily sold as a kit for amateur aviation enthusiasts, requiring approximately 600 hours of assembly.
The aircraft was an innovation in the light aviation sector, offering both unpowered glider (Monerai S) and powered (Monerai P) variants. While the kits were manufactured and distributed by Monnett Experimental Aircraft in Wisconsin, most completed units were finished by individual builders in various locations across the USA and internationally. Today, the Monerai is considered a classic of the homebuilt movement, with several examples preserved in aviation museums such as the New England Air Museum and the Shannon Aviation Museum.
