Session Messenger

Session Messenger is a decentralized, privacy-focused communication platform built on the Oxen Network. Originally conceived as a fork of the Signal messaging protocol, Session differentiates itself by removing the requirement for phone numbers or email addresses, instead utilizing unique session IDs and an onion-routing protocol to mask user metadata and IP addresses.

The development and maintenance of Session are managed by the Oxen Privacy Tech Foundation (formerly the Loki Foundation), a non-profit organization dedicated to building open-source privacy tools. By leveraging a distributed network of service nodes, Session ensures that no single entity has total control over the data flow, aligning with web3 principles of decentralization and censorship resistance.
