The Kellogg’s story began in 1894 in Battle Creek, Michigan, when Will Keith Kellogg and his brother Dr. John Harvey Kellogg accidentally discovered the process of creating flaked grain while attempting to make a healthy substitute for bread. This innovation led to the founding of the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company in 1906, which eventually became the global giant known as the Kellogg Company.
Today, the manufacturing of Kellogg’s products is a global operation. While the headquarters remain in Battle Creek, the company operates numerous production facilities across the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico, Thailand, Australia, and South Africa to serve local markets. This distributed manufacturing model ensures freshness and allows the brand to tailor specific flavors and nutritional profiles to regional preferences.
In late 2023, the original Kellogg Company underwent a significant corporate restructuring, splitting into two independent public companies. The North American cereal business (including brands like Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops) is now owned and operated by WK Kellogg Co. Meanwhile, the global snacking, international cereal, and frozen breakfast business was renamed Kellanova. This strategic separation allows each company to focus on specific growth trajectories while remaining rooted in the legacy of their founder.
