Borden is an iconic American dairy brand with a history dating back to 1857, founded by Gail Borden, Jr., who developed the first commercial milk-condensing process. The brand is famously personified by Elsie the Cow, one of the most recognized marketing mascots in the United States.
Today, the manufacturing of Borden-branded cheese products is primarily handled in the United States. While the original Borden Co. ceased to exist in its historical form, the brand rights for cheese were acquired by Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), a major cooperative owned by thousands of family farmers. This ensures that the product remains deeply rooted in American agricultural traditions, despite various corporate transitions over the decades.
