Milk-Bone is a legacy brand of dog treats that originated in 1908. It was first introduced by the F.H. Bennett Biscuit Company at a bakery on the Lower East Side of New York City. The product was originally named 'Maltoid' but was rebranded to Milk-Bone in 1915 due to the cow's milk used in the recipe.
Over the decades, the brand has passed through several major food conglomerates. It was acquired by Nabisco in 1931, then Del Monte Foods in 2006, and later Big Heart Pet Brands in 2014. Since 2015, the brand has been under the ownership of The J.M. Smucker Company. Manufacturing primarily takes place in the United States, with a major production facility located in Buffalo, New York.
