GE Appliances is one of the most recognized brands in American households, with a history dating back to the late 19th century when General Electric began developing household goods. Originally a division of the American conglomerate General Electric, the GE Appliances brand has become synonymous with domestic cooling and kitchen technology. Despite its deep American roots, the ownership and manufacturing landscape of the brand underwent a significant transformation in the 21st century.

In 2016, the Chinese multinational home appliances company Haier Group acquired GE Appliances for $5.6 billion. While GE Appliances remains headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky—specifically at its massive industrial park known as Appliance Park—the brand is now a subsidiary of Qingdao Haier, which is the ultimate owner company based in China. This transition allowed the brand to leverage global supply chains and manufacturing efficiencies.

Today, GE room air conditioners are manufactured across a global network. While GE Appliances produces many large items like refrigerators and washing machines in the United States, room air conditioners (specifically window units) are primarily manufactured in China through Haier's extensive industrial infrastructure. However, the company maintains high quality standards and design oversight from its American headquarters to ensure the products meet the expectations of the North American market.
