Lysol is an iconic brand of cleaning and disinfecting products that dates back to 1889. Originally invented by Gustav Raupenstrauch in Germany to help combat a cholera epidemic, the brand quickly expanded internationally. Its primary market for several decades has been the United States, where much of its high-volume manufacturing occurs.
The brand has undergone several ownership changes in its history. It was formerly owned by Sterling Drug and later by Lehn & Fink. Since the mid-1990s, the brand has been a flagship name for the British multinational Reckitt Benckiser (now simply Reckitt). Reckitt manages the global production and distribution of Lysol products, tailoring formulations like this toilet bowl cleaner for various international markets including Mexico and the United States.
