Winston is one of the world's best-known cigarette brands, originally introduced in 1954 by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in the United States. Named after Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where the company was headquartered, it became famous for its filter-tipped cigarettes. While it remains a major brand in the U.S. under its original founding company, its international rights were sold to Japan Tobacco (JT) in 1999.

Today, Winston is managed internationally by JTI (Japan Tobacco International), headquartered in Switzerland, which is a subsidiary of Japan Tobacco Inc. Manufacturing occurs in numerous locations around the globe to serve different regional markets. For the European market, products are often manufactured in Germany or Poland to comply with local regulations and distribution requirements. Despite its American heritage, the brand's global presence is now firmly rooted in the operations of the Japanese multinational tobacco giant.
