Chef Boyardee is an iconic American brand of canned pasta products founded in 1928 by Ettore Boiardi. He was an Italian immigrant and chef who originally began selling his pasta sauce and meals from his restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio. To help Americans pronounce his name correctly, he phoneticized the brand as 'Boy-Ar-Dee'.
Today, the brand's primary manufacturing facility is located in Milton, Pennsylvania, where it has had a massive production presence for decades. After several changes in corporate ownership—including a long period under American Home Foods and later International Home Foods—the brand was acquired by Conagra Brands (then ConAgra Foods) in 2000. It remains one of the largest and most recognizable labels in the Conagra portfolio, continuing to manufacture a variety of shelf-stable pasta shapes and meals for the North American market.
