Batavo is one of Brazil's most traditional dairy brands, originally founded in 1928 by Dutch immigrants in Carambeí, Paraná. For decades, it was the flagship brand of the Batavo Cooperative (now Frísia). The brand became synonymous with Dutch dairy quality in the South of Brazil. In terms of manufacturing, Batavo products are primarily produced in Brazil, leveraging the country's extensive dairy basin.
Over the years, ownership has shifted significantly. After a long period under the Perdigão (now BRF) umbrella, the dairy division was sold to the French multinational group Lactalis in 2014. As of 2026, the brand remains an integral part of Lactalis's portfolio, managed by its Brazilian subsidiary. Lactalis is the world's largest dairy products group, headquartered in Laval, France.
