Originally introduced by the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company (later become the Kellogg Company) in 1928, the product consists of crisped rice that expands into hollow, crunchy grains.

While the brand was born in the United States, its manufacturing footprint is global. It is produced in major facilities across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia to serve regional markets. In 2023, the Kellogg Company underwent a significant corporate restructuring, splitting into two independent public companies. The North American cereal business, including Rice Krispies, is now owned and operated by WK Kellogg Co, while the international business and snacking divisions were rebranded as Kellanova. This ensures that while the brand heritage remains unified, the management and supply chains are regionally specialized.
