Founded in 1946 by Franz Ziener in Oberammergau, Germany, the brand began as a small glove-making workshop producing high-quality glacé gloves. Over the decades, it evolved into a world-class leader in technical winter sports gear, famously becoming the official outfitter of the German Ski Association (DSV) in the 1950s. The brand is renowned for incorporating advanced technologies like Gore-Tex and PrimaLoft into their products.

Today, Ziener remains a family-owned enterprise, currently managed by the third generation. While the research, design, and development teams remain based in the Bavarian Alps to ensure proximity to the mountain testing grounds, large-scale manufacturing is carried out through long-term partnerships in Asia. The company continues to specialize in gloves, skiwear, and more recently, a comprehensive range of technical cycling apparel.
