Blue Band is a legendary margarine brand with roots dating back to 1923 in the Netherlands. It was originally launched by Jurgens, a Dutch company that eventually merged with others to form the global giant Unilever. For decades, Blue Band was a cornerstone of Unilever's food portfolio, known for being a staple in households across Europe and Africa.
In 2018, as part of a strategic shift to focus on faster-growing sectors, Unilever sold its global spreads business to KKR, a private equity firm. This led to the formation of Upfield, which now owns and manages the Blue Band brand worldwide. Today, while it remains a Dutch household name, it is part of Upfield's massive international plant-based portfolio, with manufacturing largely concentrated in key regional facilities, including the Netherlands.
