Avery labels are a cornerstone of the modern office and personal organization industry, with a heritage dating back to 1935. The brand was founded by R. Stanton Avery in Los Angeles, California, who is credited with inventing the world's first self-adhesive (pressure-sensitive) label. Originally operating as Kum-Kleen Products, the company evolved through several iterations, eventually merging with the Dennison Manufacturing Company in 1990 to form Avery Dennison. This merger combined Avery's innovations in adhesives with Dennison's century-long history in tags and paper products.
In July 2013, a significant shift in ownership occurred when CCL Industries, a Canadian-based global leader in specialty packaging, acquired the Office and Consumer Products division from Avery Dennison. This acquisition included the rights to the iconic Avery brand name and logo for consumer and office use. Today, Avery Products Corporation operates as a subsidiary of CCL Industries.
Manufacturing of Avery products is decentralized to support global demand. While a significant portion of production occurs in the United States, Mexico, and China, the company also maintains specialized facilities in other regions, such as Australia and various European countries, to serve local markets efficiently. The brand remains the global leader in printable media, offering a vast array of digital templates and software solutions to complement its physical label products.
