Samsung is a global leader in technology, with its roots tracing back to its founding in Suwon, South Korea, in 1938. While it began as a trading company, it entered the electronics industry in the late 1960s and has since become one of the most recognizable brands for consumer electronics, particularly its flagship Galaxy line of mobile devices.
Manufacturing for Samsung products is highly decentralized. While the company maintains significant research and development centers in South Korea, the majority of its production—especially for mobile phones—is concentrated in Vietnam, which accounts for nearly half of its global output. Samsung also operates large-scale manufacturing facilities in India (hosting the world’s largest smartphone factory), Brazil, and South Korea to serve local and international markets efficiently.
The Samsung brand is owned by the Samsung Group, which is South Korea’s largest 'chaebol' or industrial conglomerate. The parent company, Samsung Electronics, manages the consumer electronics and mobile communications division. Despite the complexity of corporate shareholding, it remains a South Korean multinational powerhouse with its global headquarters in Suwon, South Korea.
