Philips is one of the most recognized brands in the global electronics industry. Founded in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in 1891 by Gerard Philips and his father Frederik, the company initially focused on carbon-filament lamps. Over the course of more than a century, it evolved into a massive conglomerate covering everything from healthcare to consumer appliances.

Today, the brand landscape for Philips is complex due to a strategy of brand licensing. While Philips was the original creator, its famous 'Hue' smart lighting line is now managed by Signify N.V. (formerly Philips Lighting), which operates as an independent company. Most consumer electronics, such as televisions and audio products, are manufactured and sold by TP Vision or Gibson Innovations under license. The core Philips company, Koninklijke Philips N.V., now primarily focuses on health technology.

Manufacturing takes place globally, with major facilities located in China, Europe, and the Americas to serve different regional markets. Despite the various licensing agreements, the 'Philips' name remains synonymous with Dutch engineering and innovation in the lighting and home sector.
