Starting from a family-run business, UPSA was acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1994. However, in 2019, ownership shifted to the Japanese pharmaceutical giant Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. This acquisition integrated UPSA's research and manufacturing expertise into Taisho's global health portfolio, while maintaining the brand's production and historical roots firmly in France.
