Buick is one of the oldest and most prestigious American automotive brands, originally founded in 1903. While it started as a pioneer in the United States, current manufacturing is a global operation. In the North American market, many models are produced in the United States, but models like the Encore GX and Envista are predominantly manufactured in South Korea. Furthermore, Buick maintains a massive presence in China, where the brand is considered a premium status symbol and most vehicles for that market are produced locally in partnership with SAIC Motor.
Today, Buick functions as a premium sub-division of General Motors (GM). It positions itself between the mainstream Chevrolet brand and the luxury Cadillac line. The brand has transitioned away from sedans in international markets like North America to focus exclusively on SUVs and Crossovers, while continuing to innovate with electric vehicle technology under GM's Ultium platform. The ownership remains firmly with General Motors, headquartered in Detroit, Michigan.
