União is Brazil's most iconic and historic sugar brand. It was founded in 1910 by the Estaleiro family as the Companhia União dos Refinadores, aiming to unify several small refineries in São Paulo to standardize production and quality. Over the decades, it became synonymous with crystalline and refined sugar in the Brazilian market, often associated with confectionery and culinary traditions.
Today, the brand is manufactured primarily in Brazil, utilizing the country's vast sugarcane resources. Following several corporate transitions, including ownership by Copersucar, the brand was acquired by Camil Alimentos S.A. in 2012. Camil is one of the largest food companies in Latin America, focusing on staples like rice, beans, and sugar.
