Solo is an iconic Norwegian orange-flavored soft drink that has been a staple of the country's beverage culture since 1934. The recipe was originally brought to Norway by Torleif Gulliksrud from Spain, who shared it with Theodor W. Holmsen, the CEO of Tønsberg Bryggeri. The brand quickly became a national favorite, famously outperforming global brands like Coca-Cola in the Norwegian market until the 1960s. Today, it remains a cultural symbol, frequently associated with Norwegian outdoor life, hiking, and Easter traditions.
Solo Super, the variant featured in the image, is the sugar-free version of the drink. While the brand is quintessentially Norwegian, its ownership structure has evolved into a consortium called Solo AS. The primary stakeholder and manager of the brand's commercial operations is Ringnes, Norway's largest brewery. Ringnes is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Danish multinational beverage giant, the Carlsberg Group, which serves as the ultimate owner. Production remains primarily local in Norway to preserve its authentic flavor and heritage, though it is also manufactured in Oman and Sweden under licensing agreements.
