Playmobil is a world-renowned line of toys produced by the Brandstätter Group, headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany. The brand was famously launched in 1974 during a time when rising oil prices made larger plastic toys too expensive to produce, leading inventor Hans Beck to develop the iconic 7.5 cm figures. These sets are designed to encourage creative play through detailed figures and accessories.
While the brand is quintessentially German in its engineering and design, its manufacturing footprint is varied across Europe and North Africa. Playmobil maintains its own production facilities primarily in Malta, where the majority of figures are manufactured, as well as in Germany, Spain, and the Czech Republic. The ultimate ownership remains with the Horace Brandstätter Foundation, ensuring the brand stays true to its independent roots and philanthropic commitments.
